Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to the most common questions about BenASR.
What kind of microphone do I need?
You can try your laptop microphone but expect your accuracy to drop significantly.
Luckily you don't need an expensive microphone. We recommend all USB microphones; Sennheiser PC 7 is a well-tested, all-around budget option. Try to use a mic with noise cancellation or high directivity. XLR microphones are also a good choice, but they are pricey.
How can I increase accuracy?
If you already got yourself a good microphone but you still did not reach your desired accuracy, don't lose hope. By spending more time, you can definitely continue improving the accuracy. Check the Improve Accuracy page for more info.
I care about my privacy. How much data does BenASR collect?
While we are deeply integrated with the OS and in the future we plan to integrate more to offer a better user experience, we do not collect your private data nor send it off your machine.
What does ASR stand for?
ASR stands for "Automatic Speech Recognition," which is a common phrase for voice engines in the industry and speech recognition literature. BenASR is the short form of Benjamin Automatic Speech Recognition Engine.
